How to care for your fresh flower delivery
Congratulations on your wonderful flower delivery from Bituin! You might be wondering, "How can I ensure these flowers stay beautiful for as long as possible?" Well, you've come to the right place.
Just like humans, flowers have their unique needs for survival and flourishing. We understand that you might not have the time or patience to tend to each blossom individually. That's why we've put together this user-friendly guide to help you care for your fresh flower bouquet, maximising their vase life and your enjoyment.
There’s no need to commit this guide to memory – we always include a condensed version of these instructions with each flower delivery across Melbourne!

Step 1 | Remove wrapping
Gently unwrap your flowers. We've taken intentional measures to source sustainable materials for the wrapping. You can learn more about our sustainability initiatives or explore our guide on how to dispose of the wrapping in an environmentally friendly manner.
Step 2 | Cut, arrange and add water
If your flowers have been out for a while, give them a fresh cut before placing them in a vase. Feel free to rearrange them as desired or leave them tied up in our signature front-facing design. Ideally, make an angled cut of around 45 degrees, ensuring more stem is exposed for the flowers to drink from. Add fresh water, filling it to about 5 cm above the bottom of the stems. Ensure you remove any leaves sitting the water – they provide a perfect surface for bacteria growth, so it's best to remove them.
Step 3 | Place in a suitable location
Display your flowers! This might be the trickiest part – finding the perfect spot to showcase your beautiful flower arrangement. Flowers will last significantly longer when kept away from direct sunlight, heat, drafts, and ripe fruit or vegetables. These factors can either damage the flowers or cause them to age faster.
Step 4 | Replace water every 2 days
Be sure to replace the water every 2 days. This ensures that the water remains fresh and free from harmful bacteria. The growth of bacteria can significantly reduce the lifespan of the flowers and lead to unpleasant odours.
Step 5 | Cut stems every 2 to 3 days
Trim the flower stems by 1-2 cm every 2 to 3 days, and make the cuts at a 45-degree angle. This cutting technique increases the surface area available for water absorption, allowing the flowers to stay hydrated more effectively. Think of it as giving them a larger "mouth" to drink from.
Step 6 | Enjoy the flowers
Now, sit back and enjoy your flower bouquet. You might even find some flowers that are yet to bloom. Occasionally, bouquets include flowers that are still in bud form. This is done intentionally to extend the life of the arrangement and offer an additional element of surprise. For instance, flowers like lilies or peonies are frequently sent while they're yet to bloom, and in a few days, they'll reveal their stunning, full blossoms.
